voice over DSL (VoDSL)
Voice over DSL (VoDSL) is a technology in which voice and data services are transmitted simultaneously via a copper twisted pair. Up to 30 voice channels can be switched in parallel at the same time.
In this process, voice is transmitted in the form of ATM cells, which allows the transmission capacity of the lines to be divided dynamically between voice and data packets.
The end-customer connection is based on a device known as the Integrated Access Device( IAD) to which all terminal equipment, including PCs, PBXs, telephones, faxes, LANs or routers, can be connected. The IAD combines all the data traffic and sends it via the twisted copper pairs to the nearest Digital Subscribr Line Access Multiplexer( DSLAM). Access to the respective exchange is provided by means of a voice gateway via V.5 interface.
