wireless distribution system (802.11s) (WDS)

Wireless Distribution System (WDS) is a radio distribution concept in WLANs in which the access points(AP) are connected to each other by radio technology.

WDS concepts have the advantage that they offer high radio coverage and that the individual access points do not have to be wired, but only require a power supply. Since only one access point needs to be wired, there is no need to wire the other access points.

In a WDS concept, the wireless access points( WAP) operate as WLAN bridges and connect the access points on this basis via their MAC address. Either WLANs according to 802.11 or individual local area networks( LAN) are connected to the access points. WDS can use one frequency band, like the ISM band, but it can also use two frequency bands to relieve the connections. The range of WDS systems can be extended by WLAN repeaters.
