satellite master antenna television (SMATV)

Large satellite-based community antenna systems, Satellite Master Antenna Television (SMATV), are used to supply house complexes, apartment complexes, hotels or hospitals with television and radio programs received via satellite.

A community antenna system is a central, star-shaped reception facility with a satellite dish through which all programs are received and transmitted to the individual residential units. In addition, television programs from broadband cable networks can also be fed into corresponding reception facilities. To ensure good reception quality, SMATV systems are equipped with large parabolic antennas, the diameter of which may well be up to 2 meters.

For community antenna systems, a quattro LNB with four outputs is used. The four outputs provide both polarization planes and both frequency bands, and are connected to the inputs of a multiswitch whose output lines lead to the receivers or the set-top boxes of the various reception points. Each individual receiver can use the control voltage to switch the polarization plane and the 22 kHz control signal to switch the frequency bands between low band and high band.
