video disk recorder (Linux) (VDR)
The Video Disk Recorder(VDR) is a Linux software that can access hardware for Digital Video Broadcasting( DVB). The VDR recorder, a digital video recorder, can filter and store the MPEG data streams for the video image, as well as the audio channels and the extra information that is broadcast.
A video disk recorder is a component of home entertainment and can search for television programs, record them in real time and play them back at a later time. The search function can be activated by keywords in the titles of the TV program.
The VDR functions are similar to the operation of a television or digital receiver. The operating functions are supported by a graphical user interface( GUI), which can also be installed on the personal computer, if one wants to watch TV on the PC or use the VDR as a desktop.
VDR recorders are available for all DVB variants, be it terrestrial with DVB-T, via broadband cable with DVB-C or via satellite as DVB-S.
