energy services interface (smart grid) (ESI)

The Energy Services Interface (ESI) is an abstract service interface between the utility grid of the energy provider and the end-use devices. It is used to control electrical energy during generation, electrical energy storage, and energy consumption, and to improve smart grid reliability and consumer efficiency.

An Energy Services Interface is a bidirectional interface that works with the Smart Energy Profiles( SEP), among others, and supports the transfer of information between the different instances of energy generation, storage and consumption. It provides functions with which end users can monitor and control their energy consumption via smart metering. In addition, ESI interfaces have auditing and login functions that log transactions between devices in a home area network( HAN).
